In Search of April Raintree, 25th Anniversary Edition
by Beatrice Mosionier

Introduction:

In Search of April Raintree, 25th Anniversary Edition In Search of April Raintree was first published over 25 years ago. It immediately captivated readers with its moving story of two Metis sisters from Manitoba.

From the first page, when we met two bewildered children to its tragic but triumphal ending, it was a story we had never heard before.

Historians say that 25 years comprise a generation. It is a testament to the power of this book that it continues to resonate with a new generation of readers. In this story, through the unforgettable characters of April and Cheryl Raintree, author Beatrice Mosionier explores universal themes. The themes of loss, displacement, and identity capture the hopes and sorrows of us all.

It is in this spirit that Portage & Main Press presents the 25th anniversary edition – for the next generation and beyond!

A Pamphlet for Book Clubs

Portage & Main Press published a pamphlet, A Reading Group Toolbox for In Search of April Raintree, 25th Anniversary Edition. It was used as a resource for book clubs, in conjunction with the promotion of On the Same Page: Manitoba Reads!

As the pamphlet is no longer available, I’m including sections of it here. Besides the introduction above, it contains A Conversation with Beatrice Mosionier, and Reading-Group Questions.

On the Same Page: Manitoba Reads!

Literacy is such an important issue in our community that I was honored that my first novel was chosen to launch this project. Our time with this project – April, Cheryl and me – ended in April 2009. A new book, Reading by Lightning, by Joan Thomas, has been chosen for this coming October 2009. Learn more at www.onthesamepage.ca
